Essential Oils Questions and Answers
Essential oils seem to be the hot thing right now. Unfortunately, this means that some companies see the interest and want to jump on the band wagon. They see it as a way to make quick money with no regard to the people they are selling products too. That's why it was important to me to find a company that was committed to only selling pure essential oils. I looked at several different companies and finally settled on Young Living (affiliate link). Even then though, I wasn't sure what I was buying. I was just hoping they worked so we didn't waste all that money. Just think of this as kind of an Essential Oils 101.
Answers to Your Essential Oil Questions
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are are very concentrated particles of plant matter.
Why are they so expensive?
Imagine filling a cylinder 20 feet high and 8 feet across with German chamomile, you get somewhere between 1⁄4 of a cup and 1⁄2 of a cup of essential oil! This is why some oils are very expensive. Other oils, like peppermint and lavender, provide more oil in each distillation, so they are less expensive.
Why Young Living (affiliate link) Essential Oils?
I chose Young Living (affiliate link) because of their commitment to Seed to Seal. It's a 5 step process that literally takes the plant from seed (affiliate link), cultivating the plant, distilling the oil, making sure the oil is pure and unadulterated, and sealing it to sell. Young Living owns their own farms. They just bought a farm in Canada this week which brings the total to 8. Not only do they test the oils in their labs, they are also tested by 3rd party labs to guarantee the purity of the oils.
What should I buy?
I always recommend the Premium Starter Kit. It's the most bang for your buck. You get the Everyday Oils Collection (10 oils), a diffuser, Stress Away (5 ml bottle), samples of oils to share, samples of Ningxia Red, and more. It's an excellent introduction kit. It is an investment. But it's well worth the price.
How much do I need?
I started with the Premium Kit and went from there. 11 oils are in that kit, so that covers a lot of ailments. At the beginning, I just bought what I ran out of. I still have some bottles from that first kit that are pretty full. You use some oils more than others.
What would be the best to suggest for immune problems? My friend has fibromyalgia and several other illnesses and needs to build up her system.
Just to be clear, I am not a doctor and my advice should not be taken as medical advice. Try starting with Ningxia Red and Super B. Frankincense is a great immune booster. Real Fibromyalgia RX by Dan Purser MD, would be a great resource. He uses Young Living products himself. I might suggest being tested for Lyme Disease also. Even if they were on antibiotics before, it can manifest itself again.
I'm brand new to this, so my question would be- if you only had $50 to spend on them, which would you buy?
This is a tough one. I want to say to save your money so you can purchase a kit later :). If you could only purchase one oil, it should be Thieves. There are so many that I love, but Thieves is a must to have on hand to kill the germs and viruses that invade our homes and bodies. No one can afford to be sick. Thieves is a great defense to have on hand.
Those were all the questions you guys had. But that was fun. Ask me more!! Leave them in the comment section or shoot me an email and I'll answer them soon.
Thank you for the link about the Real Fibromyalgia Rx. I have had chronic lyme disease most of my life and it took 10 years before I was diagnosed. I am always in search of natural ways to relieve my symptoms. : )
