Picture it.

You’re finally sitting down after another long day. The kids have already asked for 20 glasses of water, gone to the bathroom 10 times, talked about the grand adventure they are going on tomorrow, and all about how their friend’s mom is actually a momster.

Covering up with a soft blanket, you pick up the remote in one hand and your drink in the other.

Peace.

Getting sleepy, you start to doze off in your favorite chair.

Looking up, your eyes meet. Your eyes get wider as it dawns on you that you have to get up and move that stinking elf.

But where do you put the Elf on the Shelf? You’ve already done almost everything.

Here are 20 fun ideas of places to put and things to do with your Elf on the Shelf that you haven’t thought of before.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a fun tradition for the holiday season. From the official Elf on the Shelf website,

The Elf on the Shelf® is a Christmas tradition centered around Scout Elves who fly to the North Pole each night. Scout Elves arrive at homes in a keepsake box set that features a storybook. The book explains that elves love to report to Santa to tell him about each day’s activities! The best part? Kids love to maintain their best behavior when their Scout Elf is around. This way they are sure to be on Santa’s nice list!

What Happens if You Touch Your Elf on the Shelf?

Oh no! Christmas magic should be handled very carefully.

If your Elf on the Shelf is touched, he or she cannot fly back to the North Pole!

But, if your elf is “accidentally” touched, or falls out of the tree, or the dog mistakes it for a chew toy, you can revive the magic.

Here’s what you should do according to the offical Elf on the Shelf website:

1. Write a note to your elf or Santa apologizing for touching your elf. This is the most effective way to help revive your scout elf.

2. Sprinkle a little cinnamon next to your elf! Cinnamon is like vitamins for your elf. It will help them get back to the North Pole where the elf doctors can check them out!

3. Elves love Christmas carols! Try singing one with your family.
