Teachers make a difference in the lives of our children every day. Here are tangible ways to thank a teacher this year, including a special contest!

The first day of school is always filled with emotions. This year more than years past. Starting a new school in a new state comes with its own set of challenges.

One thing remains true through it all. Teachers help shape our children and their love of learning.

Teachers Change Lives

Two years ago, teachers in Colorado made our transition into public school seamless. We were blessed to have Mrs. McGuirk two years in a row as each of our boys started Kindergarten. Ms. Laverty opened the door to her 2nd-grade classroom with open arms and a love for Harry Potter that continues to influence our oldest and her love for reading. Our kids loved going to school and learning new concepts. I credit their teachers for instilling that love of learning.

Words could never express how thankful I am for their commitment to helping my children flourish and the impact they made on their lives.

I watched as my kids not only succeeded in the classroom, but they flourished. I watched as my Kindergartner started the school year not talking to anyone, and finished the school year raising his hand and participating in classroom discussions. Every step of the way, these teachers walked alongside my children and helped them to reach their full potential. For that, I will be forever grateful.

That's why I wanted to join with Crayola to share with you ways you can thank a teacher by joining with them in their Thank a Teacher initiative.

Tangible Ways to Thank a Teacher

Teachers do so much for our children every day. While awesome, we shouldn't wait until Teacher Appreciation Week to let them know how much we appreciate them. Here are some tangible ways you can express thanks to the teachers who are committed to helping your child succeed.

1. Volunteer. While this seems little, it helps teachers tremendously. It doesn't have to be in the classroom either. You can volunteer to sharpen pencils, stuff folders, fill reading folders, or do whatever they need that you can take home to do. Just ask!

2. Send a note of thanks. Many times throughout the year I would email their teachers a note telling them how much I appreciated what they are doing. Everyone needs to know they are seen and appreciated from time to time. You could also send a gift card for a coffee or to their favorite store.

3. Send supplies in the middle of the school year. We all get supply lists at the beginning of the school year, but don't forget the middle of the school year. Reams of paper, tissues, cleaning supplies, and hand sanitizer are appreciated even more in the middle of the year when everything received at the start of school is running low.

4. Enter the Crayola Thank a Teacher Contest. Have your child, or children, create a thank you note for their teacher and upload it to the Crayola Thank a Teacher Contest website. Crayola will award 10 finalists with prize packs that include great things like:

  • $10,000 classroom makeover for the teacher
  • One year supply of Crayola products for the school
  • $1,000 scholarship for the student
  • $1,000 gift card for both the teacher and school
  • Free CreatEd seminar for the school.

For the grand prize, one lucky finalist will have his or her thank-you note featured on a special box of Crayola Crayons this holiday season. In addition, weekly sweepstakes will run concurrently with the contest, offering entrants a chance to win $500 gift cards for themselves and their teachers.

  1. The contest is such a good idea! We always make sure to give the teacher gifts at the beginning and end of the year (plus during holidays). It’s always a gift card for them and then supplies for the classroom like pencils, anti-bac, Clorox wipes, etc. They put so much of their own money into things we like to help out.
