A look into our homeschool room organization process and a free playroom rules printable.

While we aren’t planning to officially start homeschooling until next Fall, in preparation of the new baby coming in March, we needed to do some rearranging in our house. While our house isn’t small, it wasn’t built for 2 adults and 4 children. But we’re trying to make it work.
We have never really used the formal dining room for it’s intended purpose. Sure, when we moved in that’s where the dining room table went. I think we ate a couple of holiday meals in there when we had company. But other than that, we mainly eat at the table in the kitchen. Does anyone still use their dining room for a dining room?
Our formal dining room has been the dining room for a brief time, the catch-all room, my crafting room, the guest bedroom complete with an air mattress and portable clothing (affiliate link) rack, and now it’s being transformed into the homeschool/playroom. Our oldest basically begs to go to school, so we have started calling it the schoolroom. She seems to like that.
I haven’t gotten everything where it needs to be just yet. We haven’t bought all the curriculum or manipulatives. There is still some furniture in there that needs to come out, I just don’t have any place to put it. It was my craft room, but now most of my craft stuff is in my husband’s office, and he’s ready for that to be moved. So this is still a work in progress. I’ll continue to share our progress if you would like!
Our first step in the process was to make a trip to IKEA. I love IKEA. Their storage options are amazing and within our budget. We bought 2 Trofast storage systems (the frames and bins) and one Expedit bookcase. It doesn’t take up the whole wall, but it takes up quite a bit of space. It’s amazing! I can’t wait to get everything where it needs to be!! It’s almost like buying new school supplies right before school starts back. I used to love that part of the Back to School season.
Since it’s also part Playroom, and will be pretty much until the Fall, I went ahead and made a Playroom Rules printable to hang up in there. While my kids can’t read yet, we can talk about the rules, become familiar with them, and since I’m sure we will come back to them over and over again, they will learn their new sight words quickly.

It’s kind of silly, but I have wanted one for a really long time. But could never find one that I liked all the wording. So I made one for us. I may end up tweaking this one a bit. If I do, I’ll definitely add more color options for you!

You are right, no one really uses their dining or living room anymore. Thanks for linking up with our first Weekend Wind-Down Party. Enjoy your weekend.

How exciting! We also plan on homeschooling and in our new house we have an entire second floor that ones big open room... for now it's going to be our office, but when the kids get bigger it will be the playroom/school room! We're also planning a trip to Ikea soon, it's about 2.5 hours away and I've never been! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for linking up with us at our Weekend Wind-Down Party! ;-)
